Yeah, USANetwork definitely has a habit of giving us pairs - het and slash alike - who seem so perfect for one another, only to never let it happen.

That's... probably unintentional.

They're giving you what you want, inspiring a devoted fandom, keeping people watching. It's a smart move on their part.

Erp, I mean that it's intentional. They do it on purpose. It's a strong dynamic that people obviously respond to.

It's intentional in the sense that they've created shows with strong characters and relationships. That's USA network's motto "characters welcome" meaning their shows are about the characters more than anything. And when you have well developed characters with well developed relationships, you get slash.

In some shows it's more overt than others (pretttty sure it's a running joke in White Collar with Peter/Neal).

Or in one case an OT3. I am so so so so SO sick of them throwing random women at Neal just because they feel like there's got to be a romance in everything. I'm not sure I want the OT3 to ever become canon while Peter has so much power over Neal (even though I really think El is the queen of everything) but I am just way more interested in the dynamics between Peter, El, Neal, Mozzie, and the rest of the gang than I am in Neal's dating life.
