Re: What are we? (Describing the self) (heh, what a subject line)

Probably because I'm a capitalist pig, I'd find all that information a big overshare if I was meeting someone for the first time. Frankly, when I meet someone, I want to know that they are studying X thing, working at X place, writing X novel. I don't care if they believe in an afterlife or hard work or love whoever or despise cheese. I don't think I'm wrong in thinking that a lot of that sort of information would either be useless or a faux pas as a conversational starting point.

I...didn't get the impression that this was about talking points for conversations with strangers, but more an exercise in self-examination.

You seem really angry at a pretty benign anon reply. oO

Not angry at all, actually. :)

Really? Most times I meet new people, it's by discussing general opinions about things, not listing personal info. It seems like more of a faux pas to me to ask a complete stranger "what are you doing with your life" like I'm some kind of job interviewer. Plus, it puts those who aren't doing anything in particular, or something not very flattering, on the spot.
