I think it depends on how old your phone is. For example, I can't leave my phone plugged in overnight because it actually drains the battery life if I charge it too often or for too long. Same with my laptop. Both of these devices, however, are 3-4 years old. With newer models I think they've solved this problem, so if you're paranoid about the charge and don't plan on having the phone for eons, then you're probably okay.
