Never had exactly this experience, but I remember how much it bothered me that when I went to college, I couldn't pet/hug my dogs :( I missed it so much I would catch myself closing my eyes trying to remember what it was like to touch them and how their fur and bone structure felt. I would even go out of my way to ask people walking on campus if I could pet their dogs like some loser dweeb, and even that wasn't the same because when it's a stranger's dog you have to pet them all reserved and polite, you can't scratch them and rub them or put your arms around them.

Oh, to hell with that. I even have the luxury of having my own dog, now. But when I go to other people's homes or meet someone else's dog, and it's a friendly dog? I am down on the knees and smooshing the hell out of it. Just met a crazy-sweet golden retriever today, actually. Little guy was in love with me for how much cuddling I gave him.

Never hold back with dogs, man.

Man, I can't pet other people's dogs. I gave up on it the last time when I burst into tears and freaked out the sweet couple who gave me permission to play with their German Sheppard.
