I think she would have still tried going to Larry at that point regardless of whether or not he was available.

Maybe, but in the book Leo says that Nadine waited until Larry loved Lucy too much, specifically because she'd be rejected and be able to blame him for not stopping her from going to Flagg. It was another way of pushing the responsibility of her actions onto someone else.

Granted, that's Leo's interpretation of her thoughts, but he is psychic and probably knew her better than herself at that point.
