I don't even know what this comment means.

If this has ever, ever happened in the media, it certainly hasn't happened where I live, in the U.S. The most prominent advocate of assisted suicide here is Dr. Kevorkian, who, together with his patients/victims, is generally regarded as creepy and sketchy (no judgement on the principle he was fighting for, but he was a singularly non-charismatic advocate for it).

The other famous cases have been right-to-die cases involving unconscious or unresponsive patients. Unless the person you replied to can cite an actual charismatic, disabled assisted suicide advocate who was fawned over by the press and showered with legislation, I will not believe such a person exists.

I still have no idea what you're talking about. What do you mean by "such a person exists"? Such a person as what? I'm just not sure what you're trying to say...

I *think* the anon above is talking about how some people with severe disabilities or on life support are actually happy and doesn't want to die*. The anon is afraid that, if assisted suicide laws pass, relatives and friends might use the laws to send their "loved ones" to "a better place" without getting their consent or without seeking adaquate treatment for their conditions. The laws have the potential to be greatly abused.

Anyway, this is what I got from the anon's post. I'm not sure if this is their exact message.

*The only example that comes to mind right now are people with locked-in syndrome. They are aware of their surroundings but cannot express themselves in the usual ways because of severe muscular paralysis, hence "locked-in." Friends and relatives often mistaken them for being vegetables because of the lack of communication.
