No, it's a sensible theory, it just didn't occur to me what the logic could possibly be for all that bullshit outside of "did it for the lulz". But I've run into this way of thinking before with grimdark fantasy, where if you haven't got the stomach for children being gutted and women raped to death, you must want shiny unicorns in candyfloss dream land. Like there's no middle ground between dark realism and hopeful positivity.
