I sort of get him being a little more sympathetic than most people paint him - his wife was the only person he ever truly loved, and he'll do anything to get her back.

Aaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnything.

Unfortunately for the rest of the world, he knows how to do that . . . and will sacrifice literally everything else for that goal, including his son, his dead wife's clone (three times, at least), his lover, his other lover who happens to be his lover's daughter by a different dude, Adam, Lilith, and oh yeah, all of humanity (although that last was probably doomed no matter how the series ended). So, still not a nice guy, is what I'm saying here.
