Don't let fandom get you down, anon. You don't have to justify your reasons for liking or disliking any character. It's subjective, like all preferences for entertainment media. If people harp on you for liking Loki, laugh at them for getting so pissed off about fictional characters.

On topic, Loki isn't supposed to be an threatening villain. There are plenty of those in the Marvel Universe, from Doom to Magneto. As people have said above, he's a catalyst, the reason the Avengers come together as a team. Some people like that kind of villain, others don't. No big deal. Different strokes for different folks.

For some reason, with all five of the Avengers and related movies, I keep forgetting that this is Marvel, and that means there should be X-Men or at least mutants involved in all this.

I think it might have been my favorite thing ever if one of the random screaming crowd people turned out to be a mutant and saved themselves.
