If it helps, it helps!

So go for it anon.

Out of curiosity, what is your current and favourite inspiration for when you're brushing your teeth?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but related to your avatar, Colgate got me consciously thinking about brushing my teeth nightly again when I used to be lazy about it and do it maybe once a week.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
That you do it at all is the important part, nonny. Whatever it takes. You only get one set of permanent teeth, and fixing them is both expensive and extremely painful.

"You only get one set of permanent teeth..."

yeah. Take care of them good, OP!

If only I could be part shark or something :(

I so envy sharks for their endless supply of regrowing teeth!

I am coming to realize, slowly but surely, that we never actually stop being children. We are simply forced to do responsible things, and as time goes on and we get older, we get...bored.

But we're never actually "adults," for there is always something that can peel the malaise away and send us back into our childlike selves.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I don't feel like looking up the entire quote, but yeah, CS Lewis agrees with you.

"Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

One of my favorite quotes of all time. ;_;

oh my god anon I need to start doing this! I'm in the same situation, but never figured out anything to make me keep doing it. sigh

Good for you! Also realize that people really do notice if you haven't brushed your teeth, even though they will never, ever tell you they do.

Good for you, OP. 'xD

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations on doing something that you should be doing?

I swear, so many people in fandom think that they should get a pat on the ass for doing something that as a responsible person they should be doing anyway. It drives me up the fucking wall.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
I think you might be the sort of person CS Lewis was talking about in the quote that was posted here.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I can count with my fingers the number of times I've brushed my teeth this year.

I've always had really good dental health, like, only one cavity ever, so that doesn't really help motivate me.

I'm gross, I know. I just can't bring myself to ever remember to.

When I started watching Shamen King it always showed them brushing their teeth at night. That's what got me into brusing my teeth at night. It made me feel bad that if a teenager could do it in almost every episode then I should be able too. Picking-up good habits from t.v. is good.

I just got braces, I am 25... my mom finds endlesly amusing that she had a hard time to take to the dentist as a kid and teen but now that I have to do that shit on my own I turned more reliable...
I envy, I totally need a fandom inspiration to make this things bearable >.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
wow, very relieved to hear I'm not the only one in this kind of situation. My parents never had me brush my teeth unless I was about to go to the dentist when I was a kid either. People underestimate how hard it is to form these simple habits as an adult, when it's never been your routine.
