I think it's hardly an out there interpretation though? I mean OP kind of liked the idea of America being under British rule.

This. This secret is supporting colonialism, no way around it.

I think everyone knows how horrible colonialism is, and to make any statement in support of is pretty abhorrent.

Also British imperialism fucked up a lot of places all around the world before the US learned how to do it ourselves.
