I'm Southern and I don't mind being called "Yankee" if my only other choice was "USians/USAsian." That's the point of this question.

Unless you have a third option that doesn't involve, "Yeah, let's beat up anyone who says we can't call ourselves, "Americans."

But you don't speak for everyone in the South - and you're asking people to ignore a lot of cultural baggage to let themselves be called, what in their area, is an insult.

That's really not cool.

Another Southerner who likes the term "Yank" here and I think Southerners who still derisively call New Englanders "Yankees" should just get the fuck over themselves already.

Yes. It has been almost a hundred and fifty years since the Civil War ended. GET OVER IT.

There's no one, no one in the US who can hold a grudge longer than a Southerner. They have turned it into an art form.
