cracked is a lousy argument

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true, but I find the entire "walking meat = bad" argument pretty solid regardless of the source.

I think it really depends on what type of zombie we're talking about: traditional shuffling Romero-style zombies or fucked up, living 28 Days Later-style infected?

Or worst yet, the insanely cruel Crossed?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
We might also be talking about zombies in the sense of The Crazies, too, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. I assume actual living-dead, stupid, not-I Am Legend style zombies.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Holy shit, fella. I know everybody laughs at those goofy CG I am Legend zombies, but that film frightened me on some really primal level, man...to me there's nothing more terrifying than being completely alone FOREVER except for the fucking monsters...despite all his fortifications he's so vulnerable to them, and DAMN the scene where he's hiding in the tub and listening to them shriek outside was fucking chilling. Compounded by the fact that were you in his position you would be the monster. Christ, I know what I'm gonna dream about tonight.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed on the very poor Legend zombies, maybe they'll improve by the sequel. The crazies weren't zombies though, just infected folk-like the first 28 days- scarier zombies in the Dawn of the Dead remake, those fuckers are fast!

(Anonymous) 2012-10-03 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Those weren't zombies. They were psuedo-vampires.

They still wouldn't be a match for mentally-functioning humans with guns and organization. and Armies.

I dunno. The Crossed are mentally functioning and carry guns -- they're basically ordinary people infected with a disease that makes them act on their most evil thoughts. Like, they treat bullets with their fluids just to infect the people they shoot.

I'd suggest you read Crossed, but uh...

Don't read Crossed. It's the most disturbing thing I've read all year, and I've read Santorum speeches.

Can the crossed work with each other?

[personal profile] visp 2012-10-02 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
So they only hate non-Crossed? That's not very logical.

That's also not really a zombie.

[personal profile] dethtoll 2012-10-02 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
No, they hate each other too; but in the presence of the uninfected they all work together to rape, mutilate and eat said uninfected. All while laughing maniacally.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like Reavers from Firefly.

[personal profile] dethtoll 2012-10-02 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the comparison is apt. Also to Warren Ellis' "Blackgas" which is MUCH less difficult to read.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
It's also not very logical to assume that beings who hate each other can't sometimes force themselves to work together toward a common end. It happens all the time.

But in this case, I think they have a point.
