Okay, wait, explain to me how it's an insult to say Jews run Hollywood? Is there some criticism involved or are they just saying "Jews run Hollywood"? I thought this was just a holdover from the many Jewish people involved in the entertainment industry.

Because... it's not factual? Because it connotates a conspiracy? Because many people ACTUALLY hold numerous, numerous anti-Semitic conspiracy theories so saying THEY RUN HOLLYWOOD, even in jest, is fucked up?

because it plays into a massive history of conspiracy theories - held by legitimately crazy people - about massive secret Jewish conspiracies which clandestinely control culture / finance / politics. it's the same shit that people have been saying for at least a century and it plays into a certain image of the Jews and a certain understanding of the way that modern society functions. it's obviously more benign than straight-up Elders of Zion shit, but it's still something that's untrue that plays into those conspiracy theories & makes believing those kinds of things more normal.

tl;dr - because crazy people actually take it seriously, not as a joke, and actually believe a conspiracy of Jewish people run Hollywood for the advantage of Jews

What wauwy said. One of the chief excuses for anti-Semitism throughout history has been this idea that Jewish people are conspiring to hold wealth and/or power for ourselves and often through unsavory means. The "Jews run Hollywood" stereotype is just another offshoot of that.

We're so white that white people feel the need to constantly count us and check whether we're overrepresented somewhere. I fucking hate the double standard about Jews and "white" in the US. We're not POCs and I'm fully aware we're much better off and enjoy huge privileges over POCs. But you know what, "White at white people's discretion and to their convenience" isn't exactly the same thing as being white, even if we do have the benefit of shutting up and pretending to be something else. It's about time Americans admitted that race relations are more complicated than the "white/non white" dichotomy.
