I really hate Elementary, and think it is sexist as shit

Wh-- really? After one episode? Why? Beyond the military thing? Like... it actually has a woman in one of the main roles...?

You sound kind of like everything will always suck for you forever :(

Heh just butting in to say that your statement reminded me of Patton Oswalt's "You will miss everything cool and die angry."

/random unrelated statement

Because the male Watson is a well-respected doctor and military veteran, and Elementary's female Watson is a.. former surgeon who lost her license because she accidentally killed someone and a sober companion stuck taking care of / looking after Holmes?

That is really my biggest issue, and tbh the fandom has only reinforced my feelings about the show (I've gotten a lot of feedback along the lines of "but women can't be injured in the military so she couldn't be in the army!" [*cough*BULLSHIT*cough*] and "it's not sexist that she's not an actual doctor because it might possibly maybe play into a later plot" which.. doesn't even make sense, frankly).

That she spends a good deal of that first episode doing what Holmes tells her (including cleaning up his apartment...) coupled with the total research fail and Magical Detective Whose Conclusions Make No Sense kind of just made me absolutely certain that I would loathe it.

And seriously, no, everything does not always suck for me. I have fandoms. Fandoms that are less sexist and terrible than Elementary. And Sherlock, for that matter, ew.

That she spends a good deal of that first episode doing what Holmes tells her

Every Watson ever (including in House) has spent a good deal of time doing exactly what Holmes tells them to do though... Hell, in Sherlock Watson has actually gotten Holmes' phone from his jacket pocket while Holmes was wearing the jacket just because Holmes told him to.

"in Sherlock Watson has actually gotten Holmes' phone from his jacket pocket while Holmes was wearing the jacket just because Holmes told him to."

Exactly. Compare that to Joan telling Sherlock to go wait in the car and him actually going.
