Would that we all could say the same. There is literally not one single person on my friends list at lj and dw who watches this show and STILL, between my usual haunts beyond my flist, I get hit with Teen Wolf references many, MANY times a day. Sure I could avoid it...if I only went to my flist (for now - who knows how long that'll hold true) and maybe the place where I check the weather forecast once in a while.
I can EASILY understand why some people are being put off Teen Wolf by the fans. I recently was catching up on a community that is basically specifically about Not Teens and Not Wolves. What I'm saying is, the entire reason this community exists is the opposite of promoting Sterek and Sterek fanfic. And, surprise, surprise, someone polishes up and presents to us a primer on Sterek. When someone pointed out that this was contrary to 1) the entire spirit of the community and 2) the EXPRESSLY STATED RULES (which were posted in plain sight TWICE - you don't have to leave the main page to find them,) the shipper proceeded to be as rude to the people who pointed it out as I have ever seen happen in the ten+ years I've been in fandom.
Another commenter here recommended that people just not be jerks to the stans and let them have their fun. I do my best to abide by this, no matter what fandom I'm dealing with. But truly it would be nice if stans could be respectful when they are in spaces that are not All About Teen Wolf. Not every place on the internet needs to be All About Teen Wolf. (And I do know that not all the fans act like that, but sad to say, the fans who do are the ones who lead to secrets like the one posted here.)
