I hadn't even thought of that, but it wouldn't surprise me. TWOP is... oddly defensive when it actually likes something, but mostly hates everything. I got slammed for saying a show needed to give the women something to do other than talk diets and men, but on other threads if a female character wears a pink dress it's all "OMG SUBJUGATION OF WOMEN." (Not really, but you know what I'm saying.) It amazes me how selective they can be.

Wow, I've never experienced the second instance you talk about. Pretty much every thread I visited was "Ugh I love [Lead Male Character]/[Side Male Bromance]/[Minor Male Character] so much, it's my favourite part of the show, but [Lead Female Character]/[ANY Female character] annoys me/has had too much Botox/is too whiny/is weak/I hate how she dresses/is a Mary Sue (if, instead of being "weak," she's a badass who has a ton of realistic skills)/etc etc etc."

But yes, the "boards on boards" policy is really stupid and the mods can be so ridiculously tyrannical, it's almost laughable. Pretty much the only time I actually cheered because of the way they handled a thread situation was when they closed the Castle thread for a few days last year because it got insanely obnoxious.

"boards on boards"--this is about TWOP, right? I left a long time ago, but for a reality show instead of a scripted show, so I don't know how it is right now. It wasn't fun, in part because most of the mods are devoid of humor.

Personally, I think both shows are unfunny.

with this said...does anyone actually like GWK? i watched an episode for Jamie Lynn Sigler (I'm a huge Sopranos fan) and it was terrible! :(

I have to admit I have mixed feelings about TNN - but I have zero interest in the other show. You mean men can take care of children too? It's not just a woman's job? GASP!

guys with kids looks terrible.

Meanwhile, I adore The New Normal. The pilot hit all my family buttons (gay couples have to choose and pay out the nose ot have kids generally, genes don't matter as much as who is raising you). I love it. I love it so much.

I...kinda love The New Normal. I gave it a chance after an anon in General Comments said it was great, and now I'm watching it and...well. It's actually pretty good! It's certainly not been offending me so far.

Though I have to wonder if the show writers watched Brothers & Sisters, and sometimes the humor in it reminds me of that. (A la the dinner party last week.) Not that that's a bad thing; more shows could be like Brothers & Sisters.

Guys with kids is terrible. TERRIBLE.

I tried to watch The New Normal, but I can't get past the grandmother. She's a fucking monster. I gave it 3 episodes, but she's just so offensive and no one stands up to her and tells her to shut her fucking mouth and I can't take it. I don't understand why anyone would subject themselves to a show that has her in it, if she's not even getting punched in the fucking face every week.

TWoP has gone to shit, I thought everyone knew that? It's sad, because I used to have some great discussions on those boards, before the mods went all crazy with power or whatever happened there.

But Guys With Kids looks terrible. I oscillate between being reluctantly charmed by The New Normal and being VERY ANGRY at its...Ryan-Murphy-ish-ness.

Ugh, I made it through the first episode and a half of the New Normal and had to stop. It has everything on my hate list, it made racist comments, ableist, fatphobic, and sexist comments. It had grown ass gay men behaving like spoiled children and called butch lesbians men. So much hate.

So, what you're saying is you can't separate A Character from The Show, and weren't paying enough attention to hear the person who called the lesbian couple men be called a bigot while the another person gazed lovingly at said couple?

I've only seen the pilot for TNN, and wasn't fond of it. I didn't like how Murphy managed to trot out every single stereotype and trope to make "comedy."

If you are talking about TWoP and their bullshit strictness...bail on that site. There are so many other TV discussion sites to visit and TWoP still likes to pretend it's 2001 and they're the only TV site to visit.

The pilot was very bad, imo, and am annoyed with it because I think it gets a lot better in later episodes and a lot of people won't give it a chance because they were put off by the pilot.
