Yes. If my barbies weren't all in storage right now I'd still play with them too.

I've had the gift receipt thing happen to me with Legos and I'm sure a lot of people in fandom have experienced similar things with fandom-related merch. Outside of comic book stores and convention dealers' rooms, people default to toy = kid.

Damn, now I want to play with Legos.

Too bad my cousin is now old enough to build together the Lego spaceships etc he gets for Christmas himself... and I don't have any other younger relatives I could steal the toys from. :(

I may just have to get my own old Legos from the attic sometime...

I'm still so mad at myself for having to leave my Legos behind when I moved (no space on the moving truck).

It's not necessarily a statement about your age or anything. I took my kid in to buy some toys and they still asked if I wanted a gift receipt. Just all part of the spiel I think.

I am really into collecting Disney dolls, and yeah, I've never purchased something and not been asked if I want a gift receipt.

The one exception is our local Disney Store, because they know me there and know I'm a collector.*

*I'm apparently a bad collector though because I debox EVERYTHING. I want to be able to touch them and pose them (and sometimes I change their clothes for certain seasons lolol).

I (kind of) collect My Little Ponies, and I'm the same! I just love buying mint-in-box G3s from ebay and unboxing them to lovingly pose them on my shelf :D

Yeah. I mean I don't plan on ever selling them, so why not debox them? Plus I don't think I'd have space for them if I didn't debox, and I don't want them shoved in a closet.

You do know that flickr is covered with people who write awesome stories about their dolls as if they were real people, illustrated by gorgeous photos of Barbies and the like who have been dressed to look amazing in meticulously crafted dioramas?

'Cause I don't care what other people think, exercising your creativity is always awesome, even if you do it through playing with dolls.

Barbies are awesome! High five, OP.

And I know that feel, yesterday I was at the mall with friends and I bought some fandom-related plush toys and my friends kept asking me who I was buying them for. >//<

Not gonna lie, 'Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse' has gotten me into Barbie dolls again. I have no regrets. I just want a Raquelle, is that so much to ask?

I'm sorely tempted to splurge on a lot of the vintage stuff (Francie~!), though.

Don't be ashamed, OP. I still love Barbies too! And action figures. And Hot Wheels. And Lego.

Actually, I just really like toys in general.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-03 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Given our last doll secret, I am waiting for someone to come in telling you Barbies are slutty and encourage eating disorders and are bad for human beings in general and girls in particular. :/

I haven't liked the look of Barbies so much recently (I think they've changed the proportions of their facial features and the ratio of face to head height), but I still love my Barbies and all their cool stuff. And I feel you on the gift receipt thing, haha.

I still play with my barbies and my legos and I'm 21, lol. The way I see things, it's basically what I do on the Sims anyways. :P

I always preferred Playmobil :3

Is this Toy Story related or did you never stop playing with them? Because I was never really big on toys, and even then I had a strong impulse to pull out my old Barbies after TS2. That shit is heart-wrenching, man.

Although I don't know if they'd miss it. My sisters and I were always kinda different; our Barbies were mostly captured by aliens, buried alive, tortured by savages, shipwrecked...it was a hard-knock life tbf.
