I thought the same thing, but then I remembered how many people deride badfic as "written by virgins." Doesn't mean good fic can't be written by them, of course, but... I can imagine, if I were OP, feeling weird if I'd read "lol virgins" all day or something.

But I pretty much agree with you, anon. Anyone who speculates on someone else's sex life and judges them based on supposition is not worth the energy it takes to lie to them. :-)

Also irl, I've had guys I'm dating/interested in dating be really weird about it, especially if they're not virgins. It's not across the board or anything, but it happens.

I have straight up lied about my virginity to people, because to the people I went to high school with, being a virgin was "uncool".

Now that I'm in college I understand how silly that was, but of course now I have reached the age where it actually *is* unusual, and most people seem to see being a virgin out of your teens as a shameful thing.

Over the internet, though, I don't really mind people know, because of the element of anonymity (even with an account).

Huh, I've never lied about it. I've never found a reason to. Yeah, you get shitheads sometimes who say stupid stuff but I don't think it's as bad as people who are labeled as "sluts" in conservative areas.

For the most part I find people who are pretty chill about it and those who aren’t aren't worth knowing.

It frustrated me to no end that my high school friends used to stop talking about sex when I'm around, as if it was too abhorrent for my virgins ears. Or they have this attitude of "nah you wouldn't understand" when they leave me out of a conversation.
Now, this year for my birthday they got me a dildo, with is kinda worse, because it got the implicit message of "here, have a little fun, you virgin". I hate it and never use it xD Also, it was horrible that they included in the present this guy who I'm not that close with. I'm not so happy with him having pitched money to buy me a sex toy, although he was nice enough when they gave it to me (Actually, he was nicer that my two girl friends, but whatever)
