there is literally a 0% chance of there ever being any new official movie or television series set in the original time line. it's dead as doornails, except for books and fanwork.

and there is something sort of sad about that, to me. because I spent so much time growing up with that universe, and while I don't dislike nu-trek - I like it quite a bit - it's not the same trek. the passing of something that we really like, especially something that we really liked in our younger days, is nearly always melancholy. there's nothing wrong with OP's sentiment.

Oh no, I understand that sentiment for sure, but there's a HUGE difference between "no more new canon works" and "all the events and characters you loved have been erased".

That will come as news to Michael Dorn, who's working on a new Worf TV series: http://screenrant.com/star-trek-captain-worf-tv-show-michael-dorn/

It's far from a done deal, of course, but it sounds like it's further along than any other Trek series that's been talked about.

i honestly wouldn't write off the possibility of a main continuity TV series if star trek ever returns to TV (it probably won't)

anyway star trek as a whole was dead as doornails before the movie came out so it's not like the follow-up to television smash hit star trek enterprise was strangled in the cradle when jjtrek came out
