Re: What was the last book that left you disgusted? And why?

For a very different definition of "disgusted," Before Women Had Wings. As I remember it was an Oprah pick (and apparently she was in a movie based on it later on) and I thought it sucked rocks.

Basically it piled on every horrific thing they could think of on the main character, a pre-teen girl (I can't remember her exact age), including abuse and a lot of other stuff. (There was a scene involving kittens which is what finally made me almost literally throw it and stop reading.)

I hesitated to give it to the thrift store because I didn't want anyone to read it, which is a really weird thing for me to think because I'm usually a "Everyone should read everything if they want to" sort of person.

To be fair, I didn't finish it and get to Oprah's character. Apparently it picked up after that. But it wasn't worth it.
