Re: What was the last book that left you disgusted? And why?

"The Serpent Bride" by Sara Douglass. That whole book made me eeaaarggh hardcore - much like your book, everybody was either horrible or pathetic, the end, and it delighted in grimdark bullshit. One character is a really terrible person, so she's mass-raped by an entire court (domestic animals included, if I recall), watches her son endure the same before he's murdered, then goes on to discover she's pregnant by her grandfather (they didn't know they were related) and forgives him for the part he had to play in her horrific punishment, and they fall in love. And that was just one plot thread. I think I only finished it because the train wreck enthralled me.
