Guess Frodo was just made of stronger stuff that he would be willing to give Gollum a chance-- and it would have worked if not for Sam.

He wasn't made of stronger stuff. He had the Ring, so he could empathize with Gollum in a way Sam couldn't.

Keep in mind, too, that Sam didn't get the Talk from Gandalf before--the whole "Gollum may yet have a part to play in this, he used to be a Hobbit, etc." conversation. Frodo had a perspective that Sam didn't have, so while Sam did act out of spite and jealousy towards Gollum, that doesn't necessarily mean that Frodo was absolutely made of stronger stuff, only that he had some inside knowledge.

And also that every time Frodo looks at Gollum he thinks, "There but for the grace of God go I." He feels himself sliding down the slippery slope into becoming Gollum and hopes that someone would have empathy for him.
