So it was shown in today's page that Jones was a teacher of some sort when James was a kid. I don't know how to feel about this...Her and James obviously have some sort of relationship, but I never thought she would have had that much authority over him when he was growing it. It sort of taints it for me a little.

Are you sure she was a teacher? Could have been an older student or teacher's aide.

She brought Don into an office and directed James to show him around. I highly doubt she's just a teacher's aide or a student :p Also considering James is pretty young in that page, Jones would look much older (James already has wrinkles showing on his face!) which she does not. The only difference between then and now Jones is her hairstyle and clothing.

There's suggestions in the forums that it may be a more parental role? But yeah, it does seem kind of iffy - I've been mentally comparing it to a kid who gets a crush on a teacher, which makes it understandable from his end, but... kind of skeevy from hers.

Unless, of course, we ARE misinterpreting everything. Honestly, I've given up trying to theorise for Gunnerkrigg XD

I kinda like it? But I like complicated relationships...I get being creeped out by it but to me it's just another interesting layer to the story.

It's only just occurring to me now that she's probably a homunculus? I don't follow the boards are anything haha I'm probably really slow on the uptake. Or wrong.

I thought the implication was that she is his mom. Upon looking back, there are no explicitly romantic moments between the two--the moments of intimacy could also be interpreted as maternal moments. So that makes it not creepy at all to me?

And if it is a romantic relationship, if she doesn't age that kind of takes some of the creepiness out of it. As someone on the forum said, it's one thing in our world, but in a world where someone really could be thousands of years old, the age difference debate changes completely. As long as they are both adults now, what does it matter?

Yes, but at this point, we have no evidence that she had any contact with him as a child other than that one scene. Don't sound the Child Grooming Alarm just because we can prove she met him ONCE as a child.

Considering it looks like she's a teacher...I'd say she had more contact with me than just that one scene.

idk, to me it looked like she was that lady that worked in the office and sometimes escorted a new kid to class, but had no authority and you never saw her again. :/

I've been honestly considering the possibility that there's more than one woman named Jones.

If only because it makes things less creepy. Because let's be honest -- Jones is unaging.

I've always been super neutral on Jones as a character - mostly because she IS incredibly neutral - so with today's update, I was torn between, "Girl, that skirt is doing you no favors" and "Jonsey, that's pretty fucked up."

(Although I can't believe Tom Siddell basically spoiled the eventual reveal with one of the new shirts in the store. I mean, I knew the comments had come to that conclusion already, but still.)

You mean the Golemn Heart shirt? I was assuming that was a reference to the robots underneath the school. Didn't even think of it being related to Jones until now. But I think Tom's said that Jones is one of his own creations, not something directly from mythology, so I've been assuming the Golemn theory is incorrect...

I'm actually not bothered by it--but my main fandom focuses on a couple where one is an approx. 85-year-old demon and the other is a 16-year-old girl (and he's known her since she was 12 and has watched her grow up) so...I guess I'm desensitized to that sort of thing?

But really, the only time I'm bothered if there seems to be an imbalance of power when the relationship is actually started. As far as we can tell, if they're in some sort of romantic relationship, it didn't start until the page previously (and even then Eglamore doesn't seem immediately keen on it), so it started once Eglamore was an adult and much more on her level. If Jones was the sort to be overly affectionate and was shown being so to Eglamore when he was a kid I'd be more creeped out, but Jones is...Jones.
