4. They used to bug me, but over time, I finally decided that while the infamous Mary Sues aren't really pinnacles of good writing, they ARE often a part of being a young fan. It's not really the kind of thing anyone's interested in reading or seeing besides them and their friends, but hey, they're just enjoying fandom in their own way, so I don't bother them.

7. The only reason I'd ever bother playing that game is her.

9. No. It's boring.

10. You shouldn't feel guilty! You were the more attentive moderators, you apparently earned your success.

13. Who is that? He looks neat.

15. See #4.

18. I like Mello, but Matt doesn't really have much going for him besides a nice character design. Srsly, even that blonde chick Mello was dating had more of a personality. I don't mind the pairing, but I can't see how it could possibly be interesting.

23. Haha... Hate to admit it, but I feel the same way about the second and third things you said.

4. I noticed the OP used the term OC but you equated it with Mary Sue. Are all OC's Mary Sues by default? Is it possible to have a GOOD OC that actually kind of makes sense? I'm curious, because I've got several OCs of my own and a sort of psuedo-mini fandom around them. (But our fandom is small and the character it centers around really has no peers, so in order to write any thing of substance about him we kind of have to make it up as we go along.)

I'd hate to see myself falling into the Mary Sue/self insert trap just because I had to make up a few key characters to make a story work, and then keep them around (and, yeah, inevitably pair them with canon characters) because I liked them.

Hey, I was being supportive of the concept. I'm not a fan of the term "Mary Sue" either, I'm just saying that someone doesn't have to follow what's generally considered "the right way to write fanfiction". People should write what they enjoy writing, and not have to worry that they'll get ripped apart just because they made an OC. It's about making something you like and having fun, not working to please everyone else.

Have I made OCs? Sure. I think probably everyone has at some point. I disagree with the concept of people trying to pressure others to stop doing what they like.

Oh, I didn't mean to come off like I was arguing with you or anything! ^_^;; Gotta love the internet where honest questions come off sarcastic. The only beef I had with your comment was that you used "Mary Sue" and "OC" interchangably.

It's just that I always thought "Mary Sue" was a TYPE of OC. And I subscribe to the idea that: All Mary Sues are OCs. Not all OCs are Mary Sues. And to use the terms interchangably gives all OCs a bad rep (as being written as ultra talented and supposedly irrisistable characters being written by "young fans"). As a result, writing my OC--which should be something I enjoy--makes me anxious and feel dirty (not beacause I'm opposed to Mary Sues, but because I know I can do better than that) and I end up not enjoying it at all.

But at this point I don't even know what I'm talking about any more, so I'll stop. I can't believe I wasted so much time on such a silly non-existant arguement. XD
