I always identified Rabbit as female, too. Even as an adult, I struggle to un-see it. I literally have to stop and go, "Oh, right, MALE" every time I see that character.

Hmm.

Piglet will be a girl to me always.

I didn't even realize Piglet was male until a year or so ago.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I was like that with the skunk from Bambi.

I've always thought Piglet was a girl too but I guess it was because Piglet wears pink so younger me thought pink=girl and of course most of the stuff that features Piglet is aimed at girls which probably didn't help much either.

...Rabbit isn't a girl?! This thread has blown my fucking mind. THE SKUNK FROM BAMBI TOO?! My childhood was lies!

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Be nice. It must be hard to get through airport security with a headcannon.

I also thought Rabbit was female, but not for any reason I can be proud of.

Oh hey there.

You (general you) still can't convince me Rabbit is male. I thought she was a woman when I was little and continue to think it now. I refuse to believe otherwise.

I also thought Rabbit and Tigger were dating. I'm not sure why but I roll with it now.

So high five for our headcanons that will never happen in canon.

Why though? Because of the voice? Because he "acts like a girl?" (For shame if it's that.)

I was never sure if he sounded like an old woman or an old man.

What. The Icelandic translation explicitly made Rabbit female, with a female name! What is this I don't even.

I always thought Rabbit and everyone else in the Hundred Acre Wood, save Kanga were male... didn't stop me from thinking he and Tigger fought like an old married couple, though.

Ewwww. I did not need that mental image. Freaking gross.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-07 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I have a different headcanon, but I thought Rabbit was a girl, too, at least when I was super-young. I think it was a combination of the voice and the gardening... My mom was a super avid gardener when I was a kid, and I always associated Rabbit with her.

I always kinda shipped Rabbit and Tigger, too, and that didn't change when I figured out that Rabbit was a boy. That was probably when I was 8 or 10 or so?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-07 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, Rabbit's a dude? When did this happen?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-07 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
I thought Rabbit WAS a girl?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-07 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
idg why people are preemptively and retroactively preparing to jump down the throats of children who misgendered cartoon characters. Like yeah, thinking a character is a girl because they "act like" one isn't exactly progressive, but children aren't really in a position to be that way when they're still being spoonfed this shit constantly. I wouldn't say it's their fault even if that was the reason for it.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-07 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I still don't really figure a consistant gender for most of these characters, but I did still have a crush on Rabbit. <3

(Anonymous) 2012-10-07 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That's funny, because when I was a kid I always thought Roo was a girl.
Rabbit never registered as a female to me. He reminded me too much of my dad ;)

Most of my childhood was spent in confusion over whether Rabbit was a boy or a girl; I always thought Rabbit was a husky-voiced girl too (mostly because *I* am a husky-voiced girl. Why should all girls be squeaky-voiced in cartoons?)
