Okay, I’m all about the UST, the lead-up, the foreplay of a relationship. I would much rather have the tease than the canon – if they are going to actually get together, I’d like them to wait until the end of the series. Anyone else feel the same?

Sometimes, yeah. But it's mostly because shows so rarely do teased couples well. But I'm kind of a hypocrite, because I am so so happy that Castle and Beckett got together in Castle - and they seem to be going well (but we are only two episodes in, so we'll see. But on the whole, yeah, UST is just so much better.

When I re-read a fic, I skip the end where they get together and just pretend they yearned hopelessly for each other forever.

It completely depends on the show and the couple, tbh.

I'm sort of the opposite--I enjoy the tease but I think that's the focus of most fandoms out there, so I'd like to see more shows that have a couple get together early and stay together and it focuses more on how the relationship grows and changes more than the "will they or won't they?" thing.

YES! A million times yes. I am always more interested in the "how do they get together and why" (especially with non-canonical couples) than the actual getting together part.

Yes. The build-up is much more fun, and a lot of times writers for TV shows drop the ball when the couple gets together. (Though UST isn't always done well either, to be fair.)

And if we're speaking of fanfiction, I can only read so many sex scenes in the same fic before they all start blurring together in my mind.

I do! I absolutely love UST, and prefer it to anything that becomes canon a lot of the time, but I really don't like being obnoxiously baited with "they obviously will get together, we're just gonna milk this for more than it's worth first". Basically, I prefer slow-boil, subtle, mature UST without cheap drama. In the right hands, it can be the most delicious build-up that no consummation can ever match.
