Holy shit that does sound bad. My Mom went through that kind of stuff with her own mother, so I understand the kinds of stuff you went through. It's especially tough being put in that kind of situation by your own parent.

But I am glad she did try to provide for you and made sure you had enough to eat and be groomed. It makes it a little easier when you're going to school and you're not the smelly kid whose parents don't take care of their kid.

That wasn't the worst of it really, I spent a lot of time living with my grandparents and so on, while mom was in the mental hospital/in the capital prostituting herself/MIA...

Yeah, the thing is I'm Norwegian and well my mother could always get money for food from the state, also they make sure that children aren't without a roof over their head or electricity even if our parents are idiots, so I was always feed and had a roof over my head, even of a lot of the time we moved before we had unpacked. And image have always been important for my mother so I was always well dressed and clean. As I said I've had it a lot better than most, partially because of the place I was born and partially because I was lucky to have family that could take care of me when my mother couldn't.
