Things that aren't post-modern, ironic, or self-aware. That don't wink and grin or try to be witty. That don't "play with" or "deconstruct" tropes. That don't rely on cannibalizing the images and the power of other things. That try to work within genre without commenting on it. That tell a story as well and as capably as they can, and just try to make something good.

I thought deconstructionism was out of vogue at the moment in most genres? Everything in the past few years seems to be about reconstruction of tropes and genres, or decon-recon switches.
