Damn I'm still thinking about it. I didn't realise I was going to take this so seriously

and it would have to be a pretty fast extermination of the men with no evidence left since we're able to make living functioning (mice) babies from skin cells and we're completely able to regrow and develop skin cells and manufacture our own supply forever to keep making babies if you wanted to go the artificial Y route.

So the biggest problem isn't humanity surviving (provided we still have technology), the first biggest problem would be males dying out AND advanced technology dying at the same time (which would prevent saving the Y chromosome anyway). Then humanity might have a problem and we'd be only female for the 100 or so years until we die out.
But 100 years is quite a long time, so we may be able to re-discover all the technology needed to make humanity reproduce again, especially if the research is so utterly focussed and other problems like cancer were ignored for the larger threat of no-one ever.

Alternatively my mind slipped into wondering if ti is possible for humans and chimpanzees to have viable hybrid offspring considering we're more closely related than horse-zebra (which don't have huge problems breeding) so maybe that could be a loophole then decided I need to stop my mind RIGHT THERE because that's a bit too biologically feasible for me to consider comfortably.

The pic is from Y: The Last Man, a comic series where a sudden gendercide does take place (all male mammals dropping dead at once, not just human men), and outside forces end up destroying things like sperm banks. Once the world stops spinning into chaos from losing half the population, the first thing they work on is perfecting cloning technology.

Well that knocks out the stealing Y chromosomes from chimps, hahaha.

Think I need to read this.
