Yes, that was addressed - there were a large number of Israeli soldier characters. And Australia was suddenly the only country we saw with working submarines. (IRL a few Scandinavian countries, Germany and Canada have female submarine crews too.)

IRL Canada has women in all combat infantry positions, including armour, too. Has since the '80s.

Make for a strange dynamic in North America. The US military has way more female soldiers, but none of them are in combat arms. They don't even take artillery positions or drive tanks. Not that I think anyone need fear the great Canadian invasion, but that would be one hell of a shakeup.
