Y'all, I get it. I'm Doing the Gateverse Wrong. I don't think I can manage an argument that will convince you that it's okay for me to like Keller (a lot) *and* McShep *and* Sparky SIMULTANEOUSLY NO LESS and that I can love all iterations of the Gateverse and mourn the loss of SGA while still enjoying SGU. I regret making this comment. Blame the wee hours of the morning and a loss of common sense. I had this conversation multiple times years ago to little avail, and I don't know what possessed me to engage in it now. I should have stopped at a simple, "I also like SGU." My bad.

I think maybe you're making the same kind of knee-jerk assumptions you're objecting to here. Personally, I don't have a problem with people writing Keller - before she became a stick for the producers to beat the fans with I kind of liked her character, and I don't at all blame the actress for what happened to her - and I don't have a problem with you watching and liking SGU. The fic that introduced me to the show in the first place was Sparky.

The part I question is the part where you're unhappy about the fact that people were inexplicably hostile before a single episode aired, which I thought kind of left out the fact that a lot of genuine reasons to be upset happened before a single episode aired.

I don't think Keller was written poorly or made into a stick to beat anyone with. I don't think there's anything to not blame the actor for.

I think that vitriol expressed at producers or writers or marketers before and after the show airs (as well as lamenting that something you enjoyed is over) is very different than expressing that vitriol to fans themselves for daring to like the show or be interested in it. One of those is okay, and one of them is not. The latter was expressed to me often enough that, yes, you are correct. I have a kneejerk reaction. I think saying, "Man, that sucks that SGA is over. What were they thinking trying to attract all these 15 year old boys when plenty of us ladies in our 30s are watching?" is very different from saying, "Ew, Lorraine. You are betraying SGA for watching SGU. John and Rodney are dying on the Gateroom floor because you think exile in space is a cool premise. How could you possibly enjoy that show? It's bad and wrong and ewwwwwwwwww."

I just... I am glad you enjoy SGA. I do too. Yay for commonalities. I don't want to argue. I should not, as I said before, have left that comment.

Many of us are in the same boat as you (I'm guessing from your comment at least) and really try hard to focus on commonalities with the Stargate fandom at large. But sometimes it's hard.

1 - Stargate fan. Check.
2 - Keller fan. Check.
3 - SGU fan. Check.
4 - Made to feel like an asshole by the seemingly majority of SGA fans because of #2 & #3. Check.

I'm sad that Stargate is over, but TBH not sad that some of the wank has died down. I will never not be annoyed by people who bring up the cancelation of SGA when discussing SGU. I get it, and TPTB annoyed me with their reasons, too. I just don't happen to agree with the fixation on it after all these years.

I am nodding in agreement very hard with this comment.

I love McShep. I read it and write it and enjoy the hell out of it. I have a fondness for some of the other, more rare slash pairings as well. *But* I love het pairings and femslash pairings too. Basically I think everybody on this show (in the Gateverse at large really) should be doing it in all possible permutations. LOL

What I have done is find friends who are positive about the female characters and who read/write a variety of pairings too and that has helped me tremendously.

*hugs*

You are not alone!
