If you don't want to finish it, that's totally your call. But don't let them stop you from finishing it if you ever decide you want to. Post it somewhere else, and don't tell them where.

I'm sorry that happened to you. That must suck. D: Just remember that for every bitter comment, there are probably twenty people who loved your fic and didn't try and show it in such a hurtful way.

I'm convinced that one of my favorite fics stopped being updated for a similar reason. The author has a very busy life, and her so-called "fans" turned on her and railed at her for daring to use twitter when she could be writing, or refusing to accept that she had a family to care for instead of writing, and when she did update they'd yell at her for taking so long and say it was crap anyway. I'm fairly certain she bailed because all she got was abuse.

The entitlement of some fanfic readers sickens me. And those ones are always the loudest fuckers too.

I'm really sorry they sucked all the fun out of it for you and were so demanding over a story that they weren't entitled to. Considering the hostile attitude of some people towards unfinished WIPs, I wonder if they really would be happier with no fills at all for prompts. I've got a couple of fandoms with dead memes that they should just love for the lack of WIPs.

It sucks that you had an accident, OP, but most people don't consider that the OP might actually be able to finish the fic. They just want wank fuel, basically.

I've noticed it doesn't take very long for someone to think a fic has been abandoned on the Inception kink meme.
If you really want to finish the story, finish it. For yourself and because you want to. If the spark is gone, don't finish it. You don't owe anybody anything. Especially not pushy anons on a anonymous kink meme.

I was harassed and stalked across the internet for not posting a WIP fast enough. And it killed it for me.

Love the fandom, the quality of work is fucking spectacular, but there are some... really obsessive people trollig that kink meme.

WTF? I had old WIPs in which I'd post a chapter maybe once a year, and none of the people reading it ever did that to me (they were all super understanding)... I can't imagine what it was like for you to have that happen. That's just... what?

Look,I'm sorry that you had an accident and apparantly couldn't find the motivation to write,but really, you're pissed that after FOUR month people think the fic is abandoned and are dissapointed and pissed? I don't think you have any reason to. A simple note with "Sorry, will come back sometime in future and that could be months" wouldn't have to be so hard, wouldn't it? Because honestly, regardless of accident, you sound really naive. OF COURSE people will believe it's abandoned, there are countless startet and never finished fills, why should yours be any different?

I don't care how invested you are in a fic. It is never okay to harass a fanfic writer for not updating at the speed you want. You just end up sounding like an entitled douchebag. If someone doesn't finish a fic, yeah, it kind of sucks, but it's not the end of the world. You move on.

Have you considered that maybe the OP was physically incapable of writing, and wasn't able to leave a note because of that or some other reason? Either way, they don't owe anyone a note. They don't owe those people anything.

Fanfic readers need to stop being self-entitled assholes who throw fits when their fic doesn't get finished. The OP had their health to worry about, they shouldn't have to worry about some people online whining about their fanfic of all things.

And like you said, there are countless unfinished fills. People should understand by now that getting all hostile about them isn't going to get them finished. Just be grateful you got anything at all, jfc.

A note would have been nice, but real life is more important than fic, ALWAYS more important than fic. People were free to be disappointed. They didn't have to be assholes about it.

Your entitlement is showing.

It's unexceptional for people to think the fic was abandoned. Hell, they're free to believe it was abandoned when it's been un-updated for a day, if they feel like it. The issue is the inappropriateness of their reaction.

Even if a work is abandoned, harassing an author is still pretty terrible behavior that lowers my opinion of a fandom. TBH i feel more like the people who are pissed and upset enough to post angry posts on a dead story don't have a life beyond waiting for the next fragment of a fic to come out. Since the inception kinkmeme is slowly dying, I think I've seen more vocal, upset anons complaining about unfinished work everywhere over there, even harassing the mods about the rules since there hasn't been a new round in agess.

See, this is why when a story is abandoned on a Kink Meme I never get angry, just post that I'm sad it's not being updated and hope it'll be picked up again sometime.

We never know what's happening in people's lives. Family emergencies, health concerns, natural disasters, exams, work ...

I'm sorry that happened to you. I totally get why that could kill your enjoyment. It's understandable for people to be disappointed if a fic appears abandoned, but that's no reason to act like a jerk.

Also, I'm sure some would disagree with me on this, but...I've always felt like that kink meme could be pretty entitled sometimes. Maybe I'm oversensitive to it, but it killed some of my enthusiasm for participating after a while.
