I've heard a very convincing theory that the writers of IDW Transformers are doing a very subtle "fuck you" to the guy who originally wrote that stupid fucking plot by doing as much genderfuck as they can get past the comics code (i.e. drawing ostensibly "male" genderless robot constructs in stereotypically feminizing ways, like long legs, rounded construction, female holoforms, etc.) I don't know if it's true, but I love the idea.

I'm not entirely sure "stupid fucking plot" is how I would describe it. Stupidly-handled, yes, and I don't think he thought hard enough about what he was doing, and putting it into a one-shot and never speaking of it again was rather dumb. I imagine it was Furman trying to rationalize why there was a very obvious female body-type main character bot in a genderless species.

So, yes. Badly-handled, but I think the intentions were good.
