Besides what biohazardgirl there are a couple of do's and don't's to making a secret;

Do pick an easy to read font. I know you want to be all fancy by using a font that's all swirls and loops looking like it was written by a 18th century English poet but go for the simple font for the sake of the reader. You want the reader to read your secret, not squint at it for a moment and go, "Can't read. Next."

Do use font colors that are the opposite hue of the background. Never light text on a light background but,instead, dark text on a light background or light text on a dark background.

Don't write text using a complex photograph as a background. If the picture is simple, like an open sky or a a bunch of trees in the same hue, this is okay. The picture will not distract. But a complex picture like a crowd or city scene will make it hard for the reader to read your secret. Shrink the photograph and leave spaces above and below large enough to write your secret. The only way you can get away with using a complex background is if you use large, block lettering fonts for a short and sweet secret. Think about that Social Network poster.

Anyone else want to add their own do's and don't's?

Text color-wise: White text with a black outline can be read on any color. Really. People should use that if they don't have any other idea, and most programs (freeware such as Picasa, for example) make it really easy to do this.

Unless you're going to post it in a tiny size over a black and white picture of a field of flowers.

I transcribed that once here.

...if you do that, then you're a dick and I don't want to read your secret anyway (general you, not you in particular, anonymouslyyours.)

And I know you did. Why do you think I knew to look for that picture? ;D

...I'm missing something. What picture?

I do wonder if that was the secret the apologizing anon (with the monkey/sky secret) submitted and was too late to transcribe.

The picture posted above. I'd seen it mentioned/posted before, although maybe not by you. :)

Your Mileage May Vary, but if you're writing a long secret it helps to find images with lots of empty spaces. This would greatly avoid the eye-squinting and "tl.dr" posts.
