(Anonymous) 2012-10-07 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)I don't know, I agree with you that it's weird that people are put off by superhero comics - there are definitely elements of the Big 2 that are offputting and skeezy, but the history isn't really that big of a deal. It's nothing that a little googling can't solve. And there's plenty that's rewarding about comics! Especially for people in superhero fandoms already.
Then again, I personally really love getting dropped into some kind of continuity and having to puzzle out the backstory and the references and all that. It's a fun thing for me. So maybe I'm not the most unbiased observer.
