What's the basis of this pairing anyway? /not a huge comic fan

I seem to see a lot of spidey/deadpool fanarts

The basis of the pairing is the Deadpool's costume design is somewhat similar to spidey's.

In the 90's he was known as 'Ninja Spider-Man' (because of the swords on his back, you see)

Even though Deadpool and Spidey met each other like... 3 times in Deadpool 20+ years of existance.

Even though they have no chemistry.

Even though Deadpool has Cable and Spidey has Johnny Storm.

I thought it was because both characters like to crack jokes, but I'm not in the Spidey/Deadpool fandom so I wouldn't really know.

Honestly it started way before Deadpool was established as a jokester. Superfamily just cemented it outside of comic-book slash.

Spiderman truly and genuinely despises him. For his part, thanks to cloning shenanigans, Deadpool has killed Uncle ben, Aunt May, and FOUR Gwen Stacys. He also had sex with the Gwen Stacys.

Ha! I'd forgotten what a banging bodies Uncle Ben & Aunt May had here.

I...I could swear I just picked up an issue of Avenging Spider-man where Deadpool is literally in Spidey's mind, and they seemed...well, I wouldn't say buddy-buddy, exactly, but like they knew each other decently enough for Spidey to have a legit reason to want to strangle him. Y'know, instead of the usual knee-jerk reaction of just being in his presence reason that everyone has.

They were pretty fun.

Wouldn't say that I ship them, but I like them on panel together because Spidey having to deal with someone who's actually LESS mature than he is is always fun times.

They actually pop up... well, not often but with a bit of regularity in each other's limited series and main titles. There's some basis for it in the comics. Ships have been built in Marvel fandom on far less.
