the sheer volume of ideas alone is i think the biggest reason why fandom, but really, THE INTERNET, is so flipping great. like where else will you be exposed to THIS MANY PEOPLE and have the opportunity to have actual conversations with strangers about so many unrelated topics and get their insight and share your insights and even if you don't want to engage in conversation, and even if you run into a bunch of assholes along the way, you will at some point know/feel/have picked up SOMETHING YOU DID NOT PREVIOUSLY, consciously or not. i am just forever amazed at information technology pretty much!
