(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 11:41 am (UTC)(link)More importantly, do you and OP think bad fanfic is the only way to experience bad, cliche writing? This part baffles me.
And for all that fandom has plenty of bad, cliche writing, it's also got plenty of people patting each other on the back for writing it. Tell me you haven't seen dozens of fanfic writers pumping out sloppy, poorly edited, cliche fics featuring some popular pairing and getting comment after comment about how 'omgee this is so amazing and touching and how did you get so good.' If you have an ego in fandom, you can write off every negative comment as a flame and turn to those who hail you as the next JK Rowling, and come out with the idea that you're the absolute shit.
I dunno, when I see a YA author with cliche writing and an ego, I wonder if they DO come from fandom, not whether they should have experienced it.
