I can't say that I discovered I was lesbian through a fandom, but fandoms have a tendency to let the truth come out. Like, after getting into Rent was the only time I felt okay about letting my orientation really show.
I have a girlfriend now, and even though my parents still don't know, but all my friends do, I'm the happiest I've ever been.
