Oh hells bells. Nonny, whatever made you think that grey on busy background grey was a great idea? Seriously, someone needs to put together a "how to choose a legible font" tutorial.

I came here to say the EXACT same thing, down to the wording. I want to know what the thought process behind such a choice is, unless they think they're making wallpaper for a dining room instead of a secret people are supposed to read.

After straining to read it, I'm thinking it was a strategic move. People who recognize the picture will go "A secret from my fandom!" and read it while others will pass by (mostly) right? I strained and read the text, and the most unreadable parts would certainly set off another long, needless argument, complete with anonatrolls indistinguishable from genuine and ultimately it would lead nowhere. The anon's choice of wording in places was a little unfortunate, too, and fertile ground for some crankywanks and trolls.

But "Hells bells" made me smile.

I usually don't have a hard time reading secrets, but this one is beyond me. Who thought light gray on lighter-gray was a good font choice?

All I managed to get out of this was that someone was bitching about... male Hellsing fans?

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go make an appointment with the optometrist. Maybe I just need stronger contacts.

I kinda see the point. Some Hellsing fans take the whole thing so unironically and serious... Especially the Millenium fans I find disturbing, nonetheless because I need to check myself very often in the same regard.
On the other hand, Hellsing fandom produced stuff like And Shine Heaven Now.

Holy shit, next time you want to use a black and white image, don't pick light grey! There are a variety of colors out there and seeing this is Hellsing, some shade of red is kind of a given!

I didn't even discover fandom until I was in my 40s. (I was busy doing other things until then.) Now I'm in my 50s and I'm still here. I know lots of fans in their 50s and 60s. Heck, my PARENTS have even become a bit fannish about some things.

You're never too old as long as it still speaks to you. :)

Haha, exactly. Actually, though, I think Hellsing fans are better than the fans of as more sugary-sweet canon, because there's no temptation towards shock-value fanworks. There's very little fans could do that's worse than anything Hellsing's already done with a giggle.

geez, female fan here thanks you for your kind words. As in every other group, the worst people are the most vocal. I just want the over-the-top badassery and implausible fight scenes mixed with a really dark (and sometimes nonesensical) sense of humor. In a 'so bad it's good' way.

Your secret is really difficult to read, OP! Maybe you should have used bright white text with a black outline, or coloured text.

Anyway... female Hellsing fan, and yeah, I agree with you. I stay away from other fans and the fandom in general, unless I'm reading or writing fic.
But you have to kind of expect that it would attract a higher-than-normal amount of creeps - it's Hellsing!

Your choice of combinations of font and image hurts my eyes :(
And while Hellsing is full of crazy fans the places I used to hang out in terms of fandom where quite equal among gender in terms of numbers so I can't really relate to this secret.
