I always wonder if I'll ever stop thinking of the 17th century philosopher.

/pretentious douchebag

You are not alone.

Was coming here to post this.

Did you write this while wearing your smoking jacket with a sifter of brandy in one hand?

Because otherwise, nah, you aren't a pretentious jerk.

No, but if I actually had access to a smoking jacket and brandy, I definitely would have been :D

And you would do it by a roaring fire sitting in your over stuffed, high back chair that sits on top of a tiger skin rug too, wouldn't you?

Same - though it always ends of making me think of John Stewart Mills and Thomas Hobbs too. Those three are forever connected in my mind.

Whenever I think of Thomas Hobbes, the only thing I can see is Hobbes the tiger sitting on a tree branch lecturing Calvin about how humans are jerks and their life is brutish and short and trying to convince him that Hobbes should be the leviathan because all he'll want in return for ruling the world is naps and salmon. Then Calvin claims he's predestined to be the ruler of the world and they beat each other up.

Sorry, but it sounds like "what in the entire earthly and heavenly world can be more boring than the 17th century bloody PHILOSOPHER?"

Yeah, I get it, few people are actually interested in philosophy. It upsets me, though, that many people consider it impossible to genuinely love Descartes, be interested in Hume (and ship him with Russell)^W and so on.

omg plz marry me...*hides*

...also is it wrong that I picture Nietzsche trying to act on his own theories but failing and acting kind of like Barney Stinson instead...and constantly fighting with Kant...

I'm not a part of the Sherlock or Lost fandoms, but this made me snicker. Way too loudly.

It seems that a completely unintentional side-mission has been accomplished!

Johnlock is a horrible portmanteau and I refuse to have anything to do with it. Sherlock/John or S/J please.

Yup! Then again I'm old fashioned and there are only a couple of portmanteaus that I actually like the sound of.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
It's an extremely lopsided portmanteau! It has all of one name and half the other! Jolock would be more evenhanded. Or -- I have it -- Jock!

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I SUPPORT JOCK

Jock has to be the best smush-name since Spork!

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Someone favourited one of my canon Holmes/Watson stories under "ACD Johnlock"

NO, NO , NO!

Hate that pormanteau. YANA, OP.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Same thing happened to me after reading Sabriel and then getting into the Supernatural fandom. Much confusion was had.

Yeah, that's what I think of to. And the philosopher since I know he exists and has the same name but Locke was one of my favourites on Lost so I'm more attached to/likely to think of him.
