OP, you and I should be BFFs, because I hate writing anal (or any kind of penetration) but frottage is my favorite thing ever to write. But I always feel like I'll disappoint people if that's all I write.

Sometimes people are nice enough to tag for it on AO3. Generally kink memes are pretty good at supplying this. A fair number of fics I've read have frottage as part of it. I tend to read longer fics that include several sex scenes.

I'm not "bored to tears" by everything else, but yeah, I wish there were more frottage fic. I think it's because people don't consider it "sex"? (Which is dumb, because any time you're mutually getting your rocks off can be sex, penetration doesn't have to be involved.)

Yeah, I wish there was more frottage too. I feel like it would be more realistic too for many fanfics. I've read so many slashfics where two guys who previously thought they were straight are like, "YEAH LET'S JUMP STRAIGHT INTO THE ANAL." And they know off the top of their heads what qualifies as lube and how many fingers to use and where the prostate is located. And they're never grossed out by the fact that, you know, people shit out of their ass.

I love frottage too, mostly because it reads as more realistic when I read it but also I just like it. I wish more people wrote it, I roll my eyes at about 80% of anal sex scenes in fic. I have never even had it and I know BODIES DO NOT WORK THAT WAY, OK?

I'm not actually particularly picky when it pertains to smut, so long as both participants are getting off, or will get off I'm cool with however it happens. I will agree that there is a lot of anal compared to other kinds of sex and it would be nice to have more variety in fic, I can usually find whatever kind of smut I'm after for my mood but anal is the most prevalent.

But you're right. There is not enough variety in ANY way in smut, slash or het. I mean, come on! The number of ways two (or more) people can get off with each other is astronomical! But I guess tab A in slot B is easier for some people to write? Or it's what they're used to? I don't know, OP. There's nothing wrong with penetrative sex but it sure as fuck is not the only fun time option.

OP, how are you reading my mind? There is nothing that frustrates me more than getting into a fic and then having it turn into non-stop boring sex scenes.

Frottage (and any non-penetrative porn, really) is the best, I'm so happy whenever I find it instead of the same old in-and-out stuff and so sad that it's generally uncommon. Right now, I'm following an author in one of my fandoms whose stories prioritize non-penetrative (except for oral) sex, including frottage, and I'm thrilled. But when she stops writing it I shall have to wander the desert for more friction-y oases.

...why doesn't Firefox spell check consider "frottage" a word?

Almost the same here, except the "bored to tears" part of it. As it has been mentioned above you can check the frottage tag on AO3. You'll find and awful amount of Teen Wolf Derek/Stiles, and a lot of John/Sherlock. (Yeah, I'm speaking of experience.)
