Wait, how do you know that a sexual person ships Bob/Jane because they fantasize about having sex with them? Because that doesn't fit with my understanding of myself at all, and I'm pretty sure I not only like sex but am sexually attracted to people.

I think this is the thing that confuses me. So often I see "Oh, see, sexual people do THIS! And I don't, so I'm asexual." And I'm going "...they do? I guess I'm doing it wrong."

A lot of people (though not all) who identify as asexual have no clue how the hell sexuality or sexual orientations work. This is part of why they think they're asexual.

That's sometimes how some comments read to me. Though it may not be that they only "think" they're asexual, but that since they "don't want to have sex with people" they're just wildly guessing at what people who do actually want or think.

This is exactly my problem. I seem to be doing shipping the "asexual way," but goddamn if I don't want to bang actual people. If I didn't want to bang actual people at any given time but I still shipped like I do then...I'm still sexual? What if I only ever wanted to have sex with one person?

I thought they mentioned that since some people above keep claiming people can't be asexual since shipping with having sex in it obviously means you're attracted to one of those characters?

Which is wrong for everybody, really, since idk how many of my ships would work if that was the case...

For me it's more that I can't read het sex without subconsciously placing myself in the female's situation. And I know absolutely and definitively that sex is not something I like, so it's really uncomfortable for me to ship het pairings or read het porn. It's not that I think others want to have sex with either character, it's just that I so definitively don't. So it's hard for me personally to relate to certain ships, while slash is soooo much easier.

You can read fic however you want. There isn't a 'sexual way' and an 'asexual way' to ship, there's just what you personally enjoy and what you don't.

Trust me, my issues with women are plenty examined. But when I read "He pounded her vagina" or whatever, I'm sorry, but my brain goes "Hey wait! We have a vagina! Let's imagine what that feels like!" and it's unpleasant. It's nothing to do with how I feel in general about the female sex.

They know because other people have said so? Some people are into ships because they want to fuck the people involved, and occasionally they talk about it. And some people don't and that's fine too.

I dunno if I'd agree with AYRT that most people ship like that though. That seems like it would be wildly variable and pretty hard to quantify.
