(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:05 am (UTC)(link)I don't know about writing or transcribing audio, but in the case of art: An artist's actual physical work (or in some cases, digital work) is copyright to them. It's the LAW. so even if the character they drew is trademarked (because you can't copyright a character) they still own the copyright to the work itself. As long as they are not making a profit off that work (and in many cases, even if, because it's usually on such a small scale that the companies don't give a shit) THEY STILL LEGALLY OWN IT.
And even if that's not the case for OP's situation, it's still a pretty fucking shitty thing to do. All they wanted was a line of credit somewhere, but no, that's apparently too much to ask for.
