(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:13 am (UTC)(link)Ah, ok! I'm mostly familiar with fandom folks using "transcribe" to refer to writing out lyrics only.
It's cool that you arrange music (it's a skill set I'd like to develop, more than just "uhh I can plunk out the melody line on a keyboard"!), and imo totally understandable that someone taking credit for an arrangement is bothersome. Though if anything, the experience lets you: know how you feel in this situation (anon above wouldn't have a problem, you do); think about how to take steps to prevent someone taking credit (e.g., release it publicly on your own site mentioning who made the request as well, and link the requester to that instead); and gave you some additional practice. Hopefully other fan exchanges have and will go better for you :)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:24 am (UTC)(link)Yeah. I think part of my bitterness aside from feeling taken advantage of is that I was intending to revise it an extra time and then upload it to a sheet music database so more people could enjoy it. I can't do that now because of this person, although I guess it's still out there for people on her account. I would have preferred to do it on my terms, though, after all that effort.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:40 am (UTC)(link)Uploading to a public site that is not my own? Nothing. I expect nothing. I hear nothing. I take the requests because I like helping people. I share the requests on a broader scale because I think someone, somewhere will be happy to discover they can play one of their favourite songs. I will never hear about it, as this isn't like fanfic where people can leave comments or something. I have no idea how many or who downloads the transcriptions, and I don't need to.
I'm sorry, Mr. Troll, but in spite of your initial premise that I, like yourself, crave attention, I honestly don't. I felt hurt that someone asked me to do something nice for them in bad faith. I won't be shamed for it though, not by you. That said, I'm going to go work on my next request, because that's going to fill me with happy feelings of giving back to other people. You can dwell in your cynicism alone.
