There's a few solutions, and the most obvious one seems to be "start your own RP group". If you crave RP so badly you're considering rerolling to give up beloved characters, then why can't you start up your own idea and see where it goes? It doesn't have to be a big serious plot, either. You can just come up with a theme. A popular thing lately is doing "affiliations"-RP groups that have their own forums and websites and chat channels in-game, but aren't actually part of a guild. This is really great for people who are invested in their guilds, and don't want to leave, but want the experience of group activities and group RP.

Your other main option is just to reroll the same characters, and just RP them like they're your "home" toons, only on another realm. But realistically, if you're having trouble finding RP, you might just have a hard time finding it.

Honestly, go look around your realm forums a lot, join social networking communities, etc. There are people that RP their WoW toons on server forums, or Twitter/Facebook, etc. These are always options if you really feel you don't want to reroll.

"I want to RP and my guild doesn't but I don't want to leave my guild."

I don't play WoW -- is it all or nothing in terms of which server you're on? If not, could you move a few characters to a more heavy RP server, and leave a couple where you are for the social stuff?

With the cross-realm battle net account change you could look around on other servers for interesting RP guilds, roll an alt to meet and RP with those folks and then offer them your battle net info to friend them. Then when they RP they can invite you to group via your battle net username (while you are on those other alts that are on your server).

That's probably the best compromise you can find at present. It will still mean that you need to explore other RP communities on other realms but it would solve the whole "I don't want to move from my server" part of things.

This. I can't believe you didn't think of that if it's something you want ~so badly~. CRZ is not exactly something that could fly over your head with everyone and their mum bitching about it :/

Yeah, I know that pain. I want to RP in WoW, but even though a bunch of servers are marked as RP, there's only 2 or 3 that you can actually still find active RPers and RP groups that aren't long-established cliques. I know Moon Guard and Wyrmrest Accord still have active RP communities, and I played on Emerald Dream for a while and that had some activity (rolled there to play with friends, left because I'm a carebear and hate PvP servers and RealID grouping happened), but I've heard from friends that still play there that a lot of the RP activity there is dying out.
All 3 servers are high-population, and my internet connection handles Stormwind and Orgrimmar on WrA with a lot of difficulty... And Moon Guard has its lovely reputation that follows you everywhere even if you stay far, far away from Pornshire...

It seems like RP in WoW is a dying breed, which is sad, because Azeroth is a really interesting and detailed world that lends itself well to making characters and telling stories.

For WrA, I actually haven't seen much RP in Orgrimmar. I would see tons in Silvermoon and Dalaran, but that was pre-pandas. I understand there's not as much RP going on right now because folks are leveling and doing current end-game things. Also not quite sure where things are going to settle out with the CRZ, since they have clarified CRZ will affect every zone except Mists zones and SW/Org. And a bunch of RPers are NOT happy about the CRZ at all.

Moving one character?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-10 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know about your guild, but in the guilds I've played with it has always been a-ok to move a character or two to another guild if you want to try out a different environment (e.g. some more hardcore raiding, more extensive RP, playing with some RL friends/family, etc.). I know you don't want to divide your time, but you're clearly not 100% happy where you are, so why not try giving one of your characters a new life and see how it goes? Do some research to find the right server/guild and get yourself an invite, then pay the money to do a server move for just one character. At worst, you have to wait a month and then pay to move back, but it doesn't sound like you're going to get to what you want unless you try taking a leap. Plus, realm transfer could make a great roleplaying opportunity for bot you AND your character!

Er... yeah. You don't have to kill interaction with people you already know just because you want to RP. You can still hang out with them via friends, RID, and group up every now and again. Hell, leave a couple toons in the guild. I've left my main guild a few times because they weren't raiding but I still kept in contact with them and still hung out in their vent, did dungeons and PvP and all kinds of other stuff. They understood my leaving and wanting to raid and if your guildies are such good friends, they'll understand you wanting to RP.
