Boo-hoo. Welcome to what POCs have to deal with in western countries all the fucking time.

That being said, no shit Asians are racist. They hate everyone and eachother. Hell, I'm Korean and other Koreans don't like me because I was born in the US. But most of the people who are faced with racism in Asia are other Asians, so white people up in this thread can STFU.

Ah, here we go. The good ol' 'If you're white, you have no right to complain ever!' - even though, you know. In this particular situation [being discussed] it is institutionalized and considered perfectly acceptable.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-10 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Racism in Asia=/=racism in the US. Not saying one is bad and the other isn't. But like I said, the brunt of racist tendencies is taken up by other Asians. Not westerners.

Yeah, white people can complain (or in this case, non-Asians since we're talking about racism in Japan). But no westerner is actually oppressed in Japan. Discriminated against, definetly. But really, the few westerners who live in Asia deal with what most expats deal with in foriegn countries.

um, fuck you, because I doubt you have lived in Japan for an extended period of time. Non-Japanese, including whites, ARE oppressed.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-10 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
No, but I've lived in Korea for a while. Homogenous societies tend to have the same hangups.

Western person living in a homogenous Asian society will not have the same problems as someone who is hapa or something like a Chinese person living in Japan. Also, the context of a foreigner living in Japan in different than a POC living in the US or another melting pot country.

Yes, the context is definitely different, and the problems a foreign resident faces are different from those faced by those permanently living in Japan (although Japan's incredibly strict, only-barely-relaxed-in-recent-years immigration policies actually make it fairly tough for someone to go from being one to the other, much less obtain citizenship, whether American or Chinese). However, it is also true that Japan as a country has institutionalized, societal, and casual racism towards anyone who is not Yamato Japanese.

I don't know if I'd call it "oppression" myself in the context of being a foreigner, but some pretty fucked up shit happens to non-Japanese people out here. Recently, there was a story about a local government office outright attempting to steal money from its foreign (Western) workers, essentially because they thought the foreigners were too dumb to notice. I also have an Australian friend who was nearly imprisoned and is now not allowed back in the country over a minor traffic violation. This is not just directed at you, anon -- I think a lot of people see "racism against whites in Japan" and just think "oh sometimes people are mean maybe" (literally, someone said that to me the other day), but there's actually some pretty serious stuff that goes on here.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-10 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, they deal with what most expats do in foreign countries. And that's... not okay. People who move to another country are general treated like shit by people who were born there, and that is a bad thing that we need to try to stop, regardless of the POC or non-POC status of any particular groups involved.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-10 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly the best solution to racism is to accept all forms of discrimination because some groups have it worse on average. Trying to do something to alleviate all forms of discrimination would be silly.

lol yay for SJWs getting pissed out of their knickers that sometimes white people are treated badly because of their race, exhibit A.

What's really gross though is that your flippant comment in response to a very neutral comment makes you sound like you're trying to say it's justified, deserved, or something. Ew @ you.

Dumbfuck. When you go around screaming at everyone that racism = prejudice plus power, you need to recognize that rule goes both ways.

And no, the Japanese are not oppressed by American pop culture the way Western SJWs claim. They are happily convinced they are the center of the universe and can, and often do, survive very easily without Western culture of any kind.

Also one of the anons you replied to was BLACK and MENTIONED SO, but keep a-screamin!
