Think about those terrible auditions on American Idol. They got up on national TV and humilaited themselves because everyone was too afraid to tell them the truth.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-10 03:37 am (UTC)(link)I'm in a different fandom that had a resident BNF who drew a bunch of art for it. The art wasn't terrible, but it really wasn't that good either. But of course everyone was showering praise on her for her awesome art just because she happened to draw a lot of it. So once she got a differing opinion, she pretty much took it as trolling and didn't look at the comments as legitimate crit. And then it turned into a clusterfuck and went downhill from there. She totally deserved all the negativity she got after that, but if people had been up front about her art to begin with, maybe she wouldn't have had such a high opinion of herself and her work.
