I'm bewildered by the amount of fics with John in them, despite his "redemption" near the end of series 2 and his behavior in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang." He's my least favorite Torchwood villain ever.

Maybe it's because I'm still not a huge Buffy fan, but still, John? Ugh.

I think his behavior in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" accounts for a lot of the appeal. I think a lot of people find him fun. I wouldn't say he's my favorite villain, but then, I wasn't that crazy about a lot of Torchwood's villains. But I did enjoy him as a character, in general.

You mean, you thought less of Jack in light of his relationship with John? Because Jack could be a pretty dark character, and had a messed up past.

I liked Jack more for his relationship with Hart, he was one of my favorite parts of the show. I think he was one of the few, if not the only, reveals of Jack's past that showed his long life wasn't a complete melodrama. Sometimes he just had fun (even if it was entirely amoral fun), and sometimes people didn't come out of being close to him by hating him.

Eeeep, I love John Hart! I love him as a villain (he's so fun!) and as a sort-of good guy and as a means to unveil more of Jack's past. Really, I love almost everything about him, even though I agree it'd be hard, if not impossible, to justify a lot of his behavior.
